What is United Way 2-1-1?

The United Way 2-1-1 line helps people find resources in their community. 2-1-1 links callers to:

  • Basic Human Needs: clothing, food, shelter, rent assistance, and utility assistance.
  • Physical & Mental Health: health insurance programs, Medicaid & Medicare, intervention services, support groups, counseling, drug & alcohol intervention, victim services, and rehabilitation.
  • Employment Support: Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), financial assistance, job training, transportation assistance, education programs, and foreclosure prevention services.
  • Support for Senior Citizens: adult day care, respite care, home health care, transportation, specialized services for both young and old with disabilities, employment assistance.
  • Support for Children, Youth, & Families: child care, after-school programs, family resource centers, mentoring, tutoring, and protective services.

During a disaster such as a hurricane or tornado, a 2-1-1 Call Specialist links the caller to:

No matter what you are dealing with, we want to help you find a reason to keep living. You aren’t alone. Our call specialists are skilled, trained counselors you can call 24/7. Dial 1-800-273-TALK (8255). Our call specialists can help you:

  • Find a counselor or support group
  • Create a safety plan

If you want to learn more about suicide prevention, call us to book a QPR training. Like CPR, QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) is an emergency response to someone in a suicide crisis. Learn how to identify, ask the question, and where to refer for help. This 60 – 90 minute training is for the general public and teaches participants the warning signs for suicide and the three-step QPR method.
