Oct 30th, 2015

The month of October is usually a big month for everyone to show their support for Breast Cancer research and making sure women get regular check-ups. Often, no one sees where a women might be hurting from something else. October is also Domestic Violence Awareness Month. According to the CDC, 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men aged 18 and older in the United States have been the victim of severe physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime. So how do we stop the violence. One way is to bring awareness to the issues, and earlier in individuals lives. Our Executive Director, Chandra Brown, along with the Executive Director of Penelope House, Tonie-Ann Torrans, spoke with students at the University of South Alabama about warning signs, how they can help and how they can end the silence of domestic violence. If you are a victim of abuse, call the National Domestic Violence Hotline, 1-800-799-SAFE (7233).
